Getting Started
How do I register with Emerald Teaching?+
You can register through our online candidate portal. Once you've created your profile, you'll be able to provide your details and begin completing the compliance requirements needed to work with us.
Is it free to register?+
Yes. There is no fee to register with Emerald Teaching or to be considered for our available roles.
What happens after I register?+
A member of our team will review your registration and contact you to discuss your experience, availability and the type of work you're looking for. We'll also guide you through any outstanding compliance requirements before you're cleared for work.
What types of roles do you recruit for?+
We recruit for a wide range of education roles, including Teachers, Teaching Assistants, SEN and SEMH support staff, Cover Supervisors, Behaviour Mentors, Exam Invigilators, Readers, Scribes, Tutors and school support roles.
What areas do you cover?+
We primarily work with schools across Greater Manchester and the surrounding areas. Available locations vary depending on current school requirements, so speak to our team if you're looking for work in a particular area.
Compliance & Safeguarding
What documents do I need to register?+
The exact requirements depend on your circumstances and the role you're applying for. As part of our safer recruitment process, we'll ask you to provide the necessary identification, right-to-work and compliance documentation. Our team will explain exactly what is required during registration.
Do I need a DBS check?+
Yes. Anyone working in regulated activity with children will need the appropriate Enhanced DBS check, including the relevant barred-list check where required. We'll confirm the requirements for your role during registration.
Can I use a DBS certificate from another employer?+
Potentially. If your existing DBS certificate is registered with the DBS Update Service and is appropriate for the role, we may be able to carry out an online status check rather than requiring a new certificate. We'll check this as part of your registration.
What references do I need?+
References form part of our safer recruitment process. The references required will depend on your employment and education history. We'll let you know which referees we need once we've reviewed your application.
How long does the compliance process take?+
This varies depending on your circumstances and how quickly the required documents, checks and references can be completed. Providing accurate information and responding promptly to any requests from our compliance team can help avoid unnecessary delays.
Can I start working before my compliance is complete?+
No. You must complete Emerald Teaching's required safer recruitment and compliance checks and be cleared for work before we can place you into a school.
Finding & Accepting Work
How will I hear about available work?+
Our team may contact you directly about suitable opportunities, and available roles can also be advertised through our website and candidate portal.
Can I choose when I work?+
Yes. Tell us your availability and the type of work you're looking for. Whether you want occasional day-to-day work, several days each week or a longer-term position, we'll aim to find opportunities that fit around your availability.
Do I have to accept every job I'm offered?+
No. You're free to decide whether an opportunity is right for you. We'll give you the relevant information about a role before you accept it.
Do you offer day-to-day and long-term positions?+
Yes. We recruit for day-to-day cover, short-term assignments, long-term placements and permanent opportunities. Availability depends on current requirements from our partner schools.
Can I accept jobs through the online portal?+
Yes. Our online portal makes it easier to manage your work with Emerald Teaching. You can manage your details, complete compliance requirements and view and accept available job opportunities from your phone.
What happens if I need to cancel a booking?+
Contact Emerald Teaching as soon as possible if you're unable to attend an agreed booking. Giving us as much notice as possible allows us to inform the school and arrange alternative cover where necessary.
Pay & Timesheets
When will I get paid?+
Temporary workers are paid weekly for completed and approved work. We'll explain the payroll process and relevant deadlines when you register.
How do timesheets work?+
Timesheets are managed online. Your completed work is submitted for approval so the school can confirm the hours or days you've worked. It's important that your timesheet is submitted correctly and on time to avoid delays to your pay.
How is my pay processed?+
Your payroll arrangements will be confirmed with you before you begin an assignment. We'll make sure you understand how you'll be paid and what information is required before your first booking.
What happens if my timesheet hasn't been approved?+
Contact our team if you believe a timesheet is outstanding. We can check its status and, where necessary, follow up with the school.
Will I receive a payslip?+
Yes. You'll receive a payslip showing the relevant details of your payment and deductions through your payroll provider.
